July 2007
Dear Friends,
Summertime greetings from Silent Word
Ministries! It has been very hot and humid in our little
corner of northwest Georgia, just like most of the USA. Lately,
we’ve enjoyed much needed rain. We’ve just finished our
Trenton annual "American Sign Language Institute (ASLI),"
led by Jon Barr and the SWM team. It was a really
good conference with over 100 in attendance from nine states.
The team will travel to our annual northeast "ASLI"
in Pennsylvania, August 2 - 4, and be joined by Missionary
Jim Bracelin at his home church, Valley Forge Baptist
Temple, who will host the conference. Early registration is
looking good.
Our Annual SWM Retreat is coming up,
August 13-15, at Ft. Bluff Christian Camp in Dayton,
Tennessee. This is always an exciting time for our missionary
families to come together for fellowship, training and making
plans for the coming year. Our theme is "What is a
Missionary?" Our Bible verses are, "Enlarge the place of
thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine
habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy
stakes. For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the
left" (Isaiah 54:2-3). Our mission board continues to
flourish with a team that shares the same love and burden for
reaching Deaf people. Silent Word Ministries has grown to
ten departments (including the mission board). It is
amazing that each of the departments is self-supporting and is
steadily growing. I have often said that we are not great; we
just don’t have any competition in this unique deaf ministry.
All of us are just ordinary people serving an
extraordinary God. We are simply specializing in the
unique ministry to the Deaf. As of mid-July, we have had 583
professions of salvation from our many areas of ministry.
Dedication of the new Teaching and Training (T.N.T.)
Institute Building will be Sunday, August 12, 2007,
at 3:00 PM. This new ministry is planned to reach Deaf
and deaf workers worldwide, as well as to be a blessing
locally by establishing the "Dade Baptist Bible Institute."
The Lord has given the qualified personnel,
the equipment, and a film studio to implement this
needed program. We hope to have the program in place by spring
or fall of 2008.
In the June letter, we mentioned the need for
a new bookkeeping computer and the remaining chairs
for the T.N.T. building. We praise the Lord that, through
some friends of the ministry, these needs have been met. At this
time we have a need of $750 to finish the landscaping and
gravel for the parking lot.
At this writing, Jim and Terry Bracelin
and a team are in the Ukraine conducting our second camp
for Deaf young people. They are grateful to the many friends who
sent gifts for this soul-winning mission outreach. We will give
a full report in next month’s letter.
(Be sure to read the prayer and praise reports
from our missionaries below.)
Thank you for your support and prayers which
enable us to "give ourselves to the ministry of the Word."
Yours for the Deaf,
Ted Camp, Founder
Praise Reports
Jon and Diane Barr
represented Silent Word Ministries at a Silent Weekend in
Orlando, FL. Jon presented three different interpreter workshops
there. Rebekah has been home from college for the summer,
and between summer school and working at college, Joshua
recently enjoyed a week at home of sleeping in, Mom’s home
cooking, and having fun with friends.
Jim and Terry Bracelin
saw one person saved when they taught Sign Language in a church
in MD. They also spoke at a Youth Retreat in PA and a Sunday
School Convention in CT. They had 45 people at their Fantastic
Saturday in West Chester, PA. Another announcement from the
family is that Jamie and David are expecting!
Nicole Condra
continues to be a blessing and help in the home office. Silent
Word Ministries could not function efficiently without her help
in answering the phone and relaying messages; taking orders,
packaging them, and sending them out; running errands;
helping with mailouts; assembling sales materials; and
numerous other tasks. Please pray for and consider giving to her
support.
Mike and Kim Green
were blessed to take part in the 5th anniversary of the Deaf
Ministry/Deaf Church with missionary Paul Strosnider in
Florissant, MO. Several decisions for service were made during
that weekend. The Greens also praise the Lord for an increase in
support - now at 53%.
Marcie Rosales
recently learned of another church added to her support team.
Thank you, Friendship Baptist Church of Trenton, GA!
Allen Snare
reports that there were 21
Deaf saved in June at the Bill Rice Ranch in Murfreesboro, TN,
where he has been preaching.
Paul Strosnider
is pleased to announce
his engagement to Rachel Pendl! Plans are being made for the
wedding on January 5, 2008.
Prayer Requests
Jon and Diane Barr, Jim and Terry Bracelin,
and other members of the SWM team will
be conducting the ASLI in PA on Aug. 2-4. Pray for many
Deaf and deaf workers in the Northeast to receive instruction
and encouragement that will help their ministries.
Jim and Terry Bracelin
request your prayers for a Deaf church to be
established in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, so that those saved
through the Deaf camp will have a place to worship and
grow in the Lord.
Mike and Kim Green
need your prayers as they preach and teach at Deaf camps in
NJ and MI. Please also pray for safe travels and increased
support.
David and Cathy Harrison
desire the Lord’s leading as they continue to develop their
community class for Lip-reading. Their burden is growing for the
hard-of-hearing people to have accessibility to communication in
churches.
Marcie Rosales
is
preparing for a mission trip to Bolivia. Along with other
activities, she will be helping another missionary in an
orphanage.
Allen Snare
will be
heading to Mexico in November and to St Lucia in January. In
addition, John Snare (Allen’s son) will be a part of a mission
team going to Peru in January. His need is $1200. Please begin
praying for God to bless these trips with many people making
decisions for salvation and service.
Paul Strosnider
requests prayer for new Christians at Ephraim Baptist Church,
for the Deaf to grow in Christ and to become more faithful to
the Lord.
Bill and Eleanor Towner
request prayer for physical recovery for their
daughter Jewell and Eleanor’s father, Charles Sarsfield.
SWM Missionaries needing more support:
Jon Barr, David Bennett, Jim Bracelin, Nicole Condra, Reed
Condra, Mike Green, David Harrison, Marcie Rosales, Paul
Strosnider, and Bill Towner.
