Silent Word Ministries - Into the Silent World ... With the Silent Word - Since 1966
SWM Newsletter -- March, 2008

Silent Word Ministries, established in 1966, is a missionary - evangelistic outreach to deaf people, families and churches;  writing and printing fundamental Bible materials that can be trusted.  Our goal is to win people to Christ, to help build deaf ministries; to establish deaf ministries; to strengthen Deaf people into mature Christians with sound Bible literature.  We are a fundamental, non-profit, tax exempt ministry to the deaf.  We are unique in that we specialize in deaf ministry.

March, 2008

Dear Friends,

"For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love,

which ye have shewed toward his name,

in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister"

--Hebrews 6:10.

Thank you for ministering to us

so that we can minister to others.

It seems that the changing economy has become the number one priority in America today. Everyone is conscious of the daily gas prices and the unpredictable stock market. As I write this letter, the cost of gas here in Trenton is $3.23 per gallon. I remember when I was dating my wife, Carlene, gas was only 25 cents per gallon. I am sure that the changing economy has affected you and your church, as it has also affected missionaries and ministries. At a time when missionaries are needed the most, some churches, because of the economy, are cutting their missionary budget. I would like to make a suggestion for churches and supporters to rethink their mission program due to the changing economy. I have noticed that some churches and supporters are adding a monthly percent increase to all their faithful missionaries. Others are sending one-time gifts. It is sad that some faithful missionaries, who at one time had their support, are needing to leave their present ministries and field to return to deputation. Realize that most foreign missionaries are not able to return home to raise more needed support. This is a present problem that few missionaries and ministries in the past had to face. Pray for Godly wisdom to invest your support wisely where it is most needed.

Each year it seems that SWM is more blessed than the year before. As we closed 2007 with 944 professions of salvation and many new evangelism programs, I just could not see how the Lord could bless us more this year. Well, it was exciting to see the first convert in 2008. Then slowly more and more results have come in from our varied 24/7 ministries. The ministry has reached far beyond our expectations. We humbly bow our heads and hearts to give God the glory for the "great things He hath done." We are also very grateful for you who support our ministry and missionaries. You are ministering to and investing in us so that we can minister to and invest in others. Thank you!

We have received many compliments concerning our monthly pamphlet "stuffers." One pastor stated, "I look forward to receiving your monthly pamphlets. I use them in many different ways." Our stuffer this month is "Learn to be Content" and "Four No-No’s." If you need more for your ministry, let us know.

Thank you for giving so that we can

"Give ourselves to the ministry of the Word."

SWM Missionaries - March Report

Praise Reports

Jon and Diane Barr have conducted three Fantastic Saturdays already this year. In Central Florida 6 people made salvation decisions. One more was saved in the Trenton, GA, meeting. Thirty-two people braved the snow and ice to come to their first Fantastic Saturday in Huntington, WV. Many good decisions.

David Bennett had many doors of opportunity open to him on his recent missions trip to India and Nepal. His heart and the hearts of several nationals with him were touched with the needs of Deaf people there. Four Deaf people were saved on this trip, many hearing committed to be involved in Deaf ministry, and some Nepalese Sign Language was recorded to help in training workers.

Jim and Terry Bracelin had a wonderful D-Day in Frederica, DE. There was a great spirit among the 45 who came to this first-time meeting. They are currently teaching a Sign Language class and preparing for a Deaf Rally in Hanover, PA.

Reed and Donna Condra - Reed has been working especially on writing and teaching materials for the Old and New Testament Survey classes to be offered in the T.N.T. (Teaching and Training Institute).

Marcie Rosales and Cathy Harrison have befriended and shared the Gospel with several owners of Hispanic businesses. They have distributed tracts to many Hispanics in their area.

Allen Snare had a good meeting with Ronnie Rice in the Bahamas. Four made salvation professions. He also preached for a Deaf Rally in NC where three were saved, and preached and taught in the Fantastic Saturday in WV.

Paul and Rachel Strosnider are praising the Lord for a new house for them! They are moving this month.

Bill and Eleanor Towner report 3 saved already this year through the Deaf Bible Institute. Also pray for Bill as he just got news of the death of his brother in Florida. He is now traveling to Florida for the services.

Prayer Requests

Jon Barr is currently in the Ukraine, preaching for a Deaf Bible Conference. Please pray for people to become stronger Christians and to continue with the decisions they make. Pray for upcoming Fantastic Saturdays in AZ, CA, and SC. Please also continue to pray for Jon and his family in the home going of Jon's dad and the care of his mom.

Jim and Terry Bracelin will be conducting a Deaf Rally in Newark, NJ, and teaching a Sign Language class in Dover, PA. Pray for the Lord to work in the hearts of Deaf people they meet in both areas.

Reed and Donna Condra had a recent visit from their son, Ben, who was home for a week from Marine training in California. He will be shipping out to Iraq very soon.

Marcie Rosales uses her nursing skills to supplement her income until she becomes fully supported. She recently moved to a new position with a hospital in Chattanooga, TN. This work with hospice and home health allows her to work with the physical, emotional, family, and spiritual needs of her patients. Because of the move, she will make only one missions trip this year - to Bolivia. The need for this trip is $1500.

Allen Snare will soon be preaching for a Deaf Rally in GA and a Deaf Day in MD. He is also making his plans for a Mission Survey Trip to Africa in September. There he will be helping a missionary to the Deaf, preaching in Deaf schools and seminars, and helping determine the need for Deaf ministries in Africa. $4,000 - $5000 is needed for this mission trip. Please pray for this need.

Paul and Rachel Strosnider request prayer for the family of a church member, Joan, who recently passed away.

SWM Missionaries needing more support: Jon Barr, David Bennett, Jim Bracelin, Nicole Condra, Reed Condra, Mike Green, David Harrison, Marcie Rosales, Paul Strosnider, and Bill Towner.
