Silent Word Ministries - Into the Silent World ... With the Silent Word - Since 1966
SWM Newsletter -- April, 2008

Silent Word Ministries, established in 1966, is a missionary - evangelistic outreach to deaf people, families and churches;  writing and printing fundamental Bible materials that can be trusted.  Our goal is to win people to Christ, to help build deaf ministries; to establish deaf ministries; to strengthen Deaf people into mature Christians with sound Bible literature.  We are a fundamental, non-profit, tax exempt ministry to the deaf.  We are unique in that we specialize in deaf ministry.

April 2008

Dear Friends,

Spring has arrived! The grass is growing, trees are budding, flowers are blooming, and birds are singing. Our unique ministry also continues to bloom and grow beyond our expectations.

God has given us a good team, for which we are thankful. Board members continue to provide help in their areas of expertise, Diane and Carlene keep the office running, Jon Barr is continually updating and producing new videos while traveling to meetings and Fantastic Saturdays. I am writing new materials and lessons for the T.N.T. Institute which we hope to initiate this fall. The first DVD lessons will contain the major doctrines and a Bible survey of the Old and New Testaments. David Bennett appears from time to time during his busy schedule with SWMI. We have been busy providing interpreters in our local deaf ministry. One deaf lady, Marcella Cabrera, has breast cancer and is undergoing treatment. Another deaf lady, Mary Short, because of diabetes, has become blind. At this time she needs special assisted living. Our interpreters share times and schedules to help in these areas.

Daily God provides our needs through your support and prayers. Many of you do not know Sign Language, but the Lord has given you a heart to support and send us to represent the Lord to the Deaf. We take that responsibility very seriously. We promise to use your gifts and support wisely. You will receive good returns for your investments in our ministry. We are seeing good results in salvation and service through our 24/7 ministry. We are amazed at what the Lord has done!

We have already conducted Fantastic Saturdays in the South, West and the Northeast. There have been many Deaf and hearing decisions for deaf ministry and several salvation decisions. There are several more Fantastic Saturdays still scheduled. Our goal is to fulfill the Great Commission with the Deaf -- Reach Them and Teach Them -- and to help others do the same.

One of our board members, Cody Sims, a local professional financial advisor, thought it could be helpful to advise you our friends who support this ministry that you can continue to support your church and other ministries after your departure from this life. His enclosed condensed letter gives suggestions of giving that may be helpful to you, your beneficiaries, and ministries. (Upon request the full seven-page printout on Charitable Giving can be sent.) I am always reminded of the saying, "Do your giving while you’re living - so you’ll be knowing where it is going." We have our present T.N.T. Institute building because of a blind/deaf couple who put SWM in their will. We would ask you to prayerfully consider investing in our ministry in your insurance policies and wills. We encourage you to prayerfully give where the Lord impresses you. Thank you for considering our ministry, and for praying and giving so that we can "give ourselves to the ministry of the Word to the Deaf World."

Reaching the Deaf for Christ,

Ted Camp, Founder

SWM Missionaries - April Report

Praise Reports

Jon and Diane Barr

had several meetings in Arizona and California. In each of the Fantastic Saturdays in Phoenix and the Los Angeles area, a Deaf lady was saved. It was exciting to see these two who had previously trusted their churches, to trust Christ only for salvation. It was also a blessing to visit a new Deaf ministry in Long Beach, CA. There is a great need for ministry with the Deaf in Southern California.

David and Vicki Bennett

and two of their children are currently in Brazil. They are thrilled to be back in the place where God allowed them to minister for so many years. Christa will be staying for several months, working with other missionaries there.

Jim and Terry Bracelin

spoke for a Deaf Rally in Clifton, New Jersey. It was a great day. This month they will be teaching Sign Language in York, Pennsylvania. They are preparing and loading up for the coming Fantastic Saturdays and Spring meetings.

Reed and Donna Condra

have been kept very busy at Silent Word Ministries and in the local Deaf ministry. They have ministered especially to a couple of Deaf ladies in the ministry who are suffering from serious health issues.

Mike and Kim Green

were both involved in the Fantastic Saturdays in Trenton, Georgia, and Rock Hill, South Carolina. In both places Kim lead a Deaf lady to the Lord.

Allen Snare

recently preached for two different Deaf ministries in Virginia and for a missions conference for a Deaf church in Ohio.

SWM Missionaries needing more support: Jon Barr, David Bennett, Jim Bracelin, Nicole Condra, Reed Condra, Mike Green, David Harrison, Marcie Rosales, Paul Strosnider, and Bill Towner.

Prayer Requests

Jon and Diane Barr

will be involved in a missions conference in VA. Then they head to FL, where they will be helping a new Deaf ministry get started. Please pray for contact in both areas with unsaved people who are seeking the Lord.

Jim and Terry Bracelin

will be preaching and teaching Sign Language in Dover, PA. Pray for God to work in this meeting for His glory. Pray also for all the work being done in preparation for the Deaf Camp and American Sign Language Institute in July. This camp is designed to reach families of Deaf people in the Northeast. The average cost for an adult for the week is $240. If you would be interested in sponsoring a needy camper, send your check to SWM, marked Northeast Deaf Camp.

Reed and Donna Condra

need your continued prayer for their son, Ben, who is now on his way with the US Marines to Iraq.

Mike and Kim Green

request prayer for Kim's brother, Ernie, who is recovering from brain surgery. They also will soon be involved in a missions conference in Ohio.

Marcie Rosales

is planning her trip to Bolivia later this year. The needed funds for this trip is $1500. You can have a part in this missions endeavor, by sending your check to SWM, marked Rosales - Mission Trip.

Allen Snare

needs $4,000 - $5,000 for a Mission Survey Trip to Africa in September. If you would like to have a part in meeting this need, please send your check to SWM, marked Snare - Mission Trip.

Bill and Eleanor Towner

would like your prayer for Bill's family. Bill's brother, Tom, recently passed away.

"Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession"

--Psalm 2:8.
