October 2008
Dear Friends,
Fall greetings from Silent Word Ministries!
Today as I came into the office I was reminded what a blessing it
is to serve the Lord in this unique ministry! “Great is thy faithfulness” (Lamentations
3:23). Silent Word Ministries reaches into every area of the deaf
ministry. We minister to
interpreters, deaf ministries, Deaf churches, the hard of hearing, and
more.
Our supporters are part of our many ministries:
The Silent Word Newspaper, currently sent to over 13,000
people -- 680 churches and ministries, 115 prisoners, 30 schools for the
Deaf, 125 email addresses, and 5,985
families; the Deaf Bible Institute, with 781 enrolled; ten Gospel
tracts, which are distributed free, as the Lord provides; area-wide Fantastic
Saturdays in eighteen metropolitan areas around the country; twelve
missionary families; several short-term mission trips each year;
literature and videos, including an eight-year Sunday School
program to teach Deaf people; Silent Word Ministries Northeast
(Jim Bracelin); an Internet ministry; Silent Word Ministries
International (David Bennett); and more. There are over 300 items listed in
our catalog. SWM continues to establish
and organize deaf ministries. We
are currently in the process of launching two new ministries, the Teaching
“N” Training Institute and Teaching Them Ministries. Silent Word Ministries is truly a blessed
ministry that God is using to reach and teach Deaf people!
Pray for our new developing ministries –

Update on Ted Camp’s Health - On Thursday, September 4, Ted Camp
had successful robotic prostate cancer surgery. The doctor found him surprisingly
healthy, and allowed him to return home the next day. Ten days later the doctor confirmed “there
are no other traces of cancer” and removed the catheter. There is no need for more medication
or treatments. The doctor said
he would be able to return to normal duties within a few weeks. As of this letter, Ted Camp has already
been back to the office and church, and feels much better and
younger. In his words, “After 8
years, 15 PSAs, and 3 biopsies, my body is clear of the threat of cancer,
and I look forward to continuing to serve the Lord as before.” For a few months he will be limited to
local activities and no long trips.
Thank you for your prayers during this time of recovery. We all look forward to seeing Ted Camp
very soon at his computer daily writing, creating, and doing the ministry
to which God has called him.

Home Office Needs: Our outdated telephone system
needed to be replaced. A new system costs
$210. As I was writing this
letter a friend of the ministry emailed and offered to meet that need. What a blessing! The other need is to renew our computer
antivirus software to protect the office from computer viruses. Two years of protection for our 10
computers costs $315. If you
can help with this need, please designate gifts for “Antivirus.”
In 1976, when I first learned Sign Language, I never thought that
years later, Diane and I would be involved in such a wonderful, worldwide
ministry. The Lord has been so good
to us. It is a great privilege to
continue to serve the Lord together with my mentor and friend, Ted Camp.
Thank you for investing in our unique missionary
ministry to the Deaf. May God bless you.
Your support and prayers enable us to
“give ourselves to the ministry of the
Word.”
For Deaf Souls,
Jon Barr,

SWM Missionaries - Report
Praise Reports
Jon and Diane Barr had a good “Deaf Bible Weekend” in San
Antonio, Texas. It was great to see
those who had been faithful in the deaf ministry since the Barrs helped it
10 years ago. There were two Deaf
ladies saved on Sunday morning of the meeting.
David and Vicki Bennett presented missions at two different
churches in Greenville, SC. There
they also dropped off Elisabeth for her first year at Bob Jones
University. Charity is attending
classes of Virginia Baptist College given at her home church. Bethany is planning a 5-month missions
trip to Brazil.
Jim and Terry Bracelin interpreted for evangelistic meetings in
Rhode Island. An average of 12 Deaf
people came to the services. The
church does not have a deaf ministry, but is now praying about starting
one. Jim preached a funeral service
for a lady whom he led to the Lord two years ago. Seven people trusted Christ as their
Savior at that funeral.
Mike and Kim Green praise the Lord for $800 received so far
for the new vehicle they need for deputation and meetings. If you would like to give toward this
fund, please send to SWM, designated - Green’s Van. Also, they were recently encouraged about
being better leaders for the Deaf through the Deaf Spiritual Leadership
Conference in Atlanta.
David and Cathy Harrison had two people make professions of
salvation at a meeting in North Carolina.
They have also begun teaching new lip reading classes.
Allen Snare had a great week at the Pennsylvania Deaf
and Family Camp in Pennsylvania.
There was an increase in Deaf campers this year, and three made
salvation decisions.
Paul and Rachel Strosnider report that Larry, a new Christian in
their church, is excited about growing in the Lord!
The Deaf Bible Institute reports there have been twenty-six saved
so far this year, and three of those were from foreign countries!
Prayer Requests
Jon and Diane Barr will be representing SWM at a college’s
Missions Emphasis Week. They also
will soon conduct a Deaf Day in Columbus, Ohio, and a Fantastic
Saturday in West Bend, Wisconsin.
David and Vicki Bennett need to find a fundamental church in
Taipei, Taiwan, that will help in the 2009 Deaf Olympics outreach. Please also pray for the funds and
planning for Bethany’s missions trip to Brazil in November.
Jim and Terry Bracelin have an extremely busy October and
November schedule. Pray for the
Lord’s help to make those meetings successful. They also request your prayers for more
helpers in the Northeast and for $700 per month more support.
Mike Green will be preaching for a Deaf Revival in
Wisconsin, and Kim will be speaking at the Deaf Baptist Ladies
Retreat. Please pray for wisdom and
the Lord’s blessing for those two meetings.
David and Cathy Harrison request prayer that God would use the Lip
Reading Academy as a means to reach lost souls for Christ. Pray for them also to learn how to use
the computer more effectively and develop their website.
Marcie Rosales requests your prayers for the salvation
of several family members. Marcie’s
trip to Bolivia has been postponed to 2009 because of the political unrest
there at this time. She plans to go
to both Bolivia and the Philippines in 2009.
Paul and Rachel Strosnider ask you to pray for God to strengthen
their Deaf church. Recently there
has been a lot of sickness.
SWM and Piney Grove Baptist Church are
hosting the 22nd Annual Deaf Baptist Ladies Retreat at the Chattanooga
Choo-Choo Convention Center on October 9-11, 2008. Please pray for the ladies coming to be
encouraged and to grow by seeing how Christians are “Loaded with Blessings”
(Ps. 68:19).
"Because
of your prayers and support, Silent Word Missionaries
are committed to ministering to the Deaf on your behalf."
